Abstract:
The following article is an exploration of issues faced by Temporary Protection Visa (TPV) holders, refugees who were held in immigration detention for a number of years and who were eventually granted this limited form of visa protection. I recorded informal interviews with over thirty refugees released from detention at Woomera, including fifteen Kurdish, Iranian, Afghani and Iraqi TPV holders who are now living in Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney. In 2002–2003 we talked about their experiences since immigration detention, including issues of identity, family and the TPV.
