Here is a curated collection of articles that have featured in Arena’s various incarnations over the years. A few pieces reach back into the early period of this publication’s history. Each of this group of articles is here because they showcase the development of this publication’s distinctive editorial analysis and its theoretically rich mode of critiquing the world. The set is assembled for those looking to dig a little deeper.
Thus, we present some influential pieces from across Arena’s history. This begins with a few ‘foundational’ articles that served to map out the basics of Arena’s distinctive theory. This is further developed in the pages of the three series of Arena, ordered chronologically: the First Series (1963-1992), the Second Series, in both its Magazine and Journal form (1993-2019), and the Third Series, in both its Quarterly and Online form (2020-Present).
Additionally, I have included the entirely of the 2016 book, Fifty Years of Arena: Cold War, Hot Planet. This is one of the best starting places for understanding the depth and breadth of this publication. I have also listed a collection of books published various non-Arena presses that all seek to apply and extend the core theoretical analysis.
