The case of Algerian refugee academic Ahmed Zaoui who is granted no legal or civil rights by the New Zealand government is discussed. It is suggested that Pakehas in Aotearoa New Zealand should become rogues and fight for their rights if the state similarly uses the ‘state of exception’ theory to deny them the rights of citizenship.
