Gwynne Dyer has little time for my argument that the climate change debate needs to come to terms with the ways in which straightforward proposals for substantial change often encounter hidden barriers. Barriers can especially be embedded in social assumptions that are lived but are not easily open to conscious change. The two main points in his reply illustrate the problem as I see it.
