Abstract:

I am sure that both Geoff Lacey and Les Rosenblatt will agree that the significance of technology in social life is a very large topic, one that can hardly be properly addressed in an essay let alone a short comment. But some things can be usefully said that do have implications for social practice in the context of a world that is visibly cracking under the strains of contemporary development. While both Lacey and Rosenblatt come to the question of high technology from substantially different directions, I hope they will read my comment as constructive. The Left badly needs constructive debate, especially given the state of the wider world.
