Abstract:

The manner in which Australian utopianism in the 1890s proved false the theory proposed by Mark and Engels that socialist systems emerged when a deprived working class overthrew feudal masters, is discussed. It is suggested that Australian utopianism in the 1890s embraced socialism due to the people’s desire for harmonious living with equality and prosperity to all, even when capitalism and well-developed industrialization were prevalent.
