Abstract:

Thanks to the media, every TV-watching or internet-surfing individual knows Idomeni. The little village at the border between Greece and FYROM has become an improvised settlement of tents where war refugees wait to proceed to the prosperous north of Europe, mainly to Germany. The former camp Amygdaleza, located right outside of Athens, was used for a long time, but nobody knew about it. It is a symbol of what Europeans have been ignoring for years; the refugee crisis did not come out of the blue.
