Abstract:
Might Australia follow Indonesia’s response to US-China manoeuvres?
It is virtually impossible to identify cause and effect, or who is to blame, but the two superpowers of the Asia- Pacific, the United States and China, are shifting gears to a confrontational rather than cooperative strategy in their relations in the region. This is not a good thing: it is bad for the United States, bad for China, and even worse for the other countries, including Australia. As has long been the case, they want to have good relations with both the United States and China, and they don’t want to be pushed into a situation in which they must choose one or the other.
