Abstract:
Remaking the labour movement after generations in the neoliberal wilderness.
This article focuses on two related aspects of the state of the unions and the ALP and their relationship with each other. It is written on the basis of knowledge and understanding gained through thirty years’ experience in the labour movement as a union official and teacher, some of which included participation in the implementation of the Prices and Incomes Accord, and another fifteen as an interested observer. It has been written with the intention of stimulating discussion about and research into the impact of unions and the Labor Party on each other, in the hope that some way can be found out of the spiral of pessimism and capitulation that has captured the two mass organisations of the labour movement.
