Abstract:

Being passionate is all the rage. All our role models say the same thing: ‘I am focused and driven’. They might be talking about cooking, Twitter, renovating, rollerblading, fashion, art, digging up the family tree, old Cortinas; whatever. As long as the sentence begins ‘I am passionate about…’ or ‘I am so looking forward to…’ the subject doesn’t matter. The hook? Enthusiasm is contagious and content is irrelevant. That there is buzz, charge, ebullience – it’s this that must be communicated. Be into it, unless you want to be a loser. As long as it is not absolutely transgressive, like letting on your passion is little boys, enthusiasm must be asserted. You know what I mean!? Definitely. C’mon, you gotta be up and positive.
