Abstract:

The relation between administrative and ‘critical’ intellectuals has long been a topic of discussion in political sociology, social theory and moral philosophy. This article joins that discussion by offering a fresh perspective on Weber’s contribution to it, and by drawing on some recent reconceptualizations of the relation between government and subjectivity. I take as my point of departure the critical reaction to the Australian government’s recent retuning of its higher education policies.
