Abstract:
Is Uganda slipping away from America’s kingpin Yoweri Museveni?
The head of a 36-year-old pop-star opposition icon is whipped as he is tortured inside an army jail; his driver is executed when secret police mistake their target. Opposition colleagues, ribs cracked from whipping, about to fly to America to seek treatment, are plucked from their aeroplane seats and forcibly returned to hospital. On paper, this scenario would seem ripe for implosion.
