Abstract:

The UK Labour Party and accusations of anti-Semitism

The characterisation of Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour Party as anti-Semitic has summoned a dark cloud over one of the brightest spots on the British political landscape. According to the allegations, on Corbyn’s watch the Labour Party has been marred by anti-Jewish bigotry, even transformed, in the words of the Guardian’s deputy editor, Jonathan Freedland, into a ‘cold house for Jews’. Any truth to this charge would of course be a colossal stain on the Corbyn project, and would ultimately discredit Corbyn himself, largely popular as a long-time anti-racist and internationalist campaigner.
