Arena Residencies 2020 – Update September 2020
Propose a Project and Become an Arena Residency Holder
Despite the effects of Covid-19, Arena’s 2020 residency program is on track.
Present residency holders have had to reconceive their projects in these new circumstances, and a new residency place has become available. If you are interested in taking up a residency, send us a proposal outlining your project. Residencies commence 1 October; applications close 20 September.
Arena’s residencies are for emerging writers and activists thinking deeply about the nature of contemporary society and our future. Residencies provide resources and support to research and develop ideas creatively and critically around topics and issues related to these larger concerns.
Residencies will take place remotely as the Arena Project Space is closed, but residency holders will still have the opportunity to meet and work electronically with the Arena editors and others involved in the Arena project.
Successful applicants receive a $500 stipend for the development of their project, which will culminate in the publication of a non-fiction article, or other creative outcome. Residencies focused on performance or exhibition are not suitable under present circumstances.
Summary:
12 weeks to develop a non-fiction piece of writing, or other suitable project, with the support of Arena editors and others:
- $500 stipend
- Editing assistance/mentoring
- Likely publication in Arena Online or Arena Quarterly
