Paradigm Shift, a show that features on Brisbane’s best radio station 4ZZZ, conducted a long-form interview with Arena’s Paul James about his new book, Global Crisis and Insecurity: The Human Condition, Darkly (2025, Cambridge University Press). Originally broadcast 20/02/26, the interviewer describes it with this sentence:
We speak about the multitude of crises humanity is facing, and whether they are all underpinned by a crisis in the human condition – one led by the processes of abstraction and reconstitution and exacerbated by advancing technoscience.
Paul James is a researcher in the Institute for Culture and Society at the Western Sydney University. He has been an editor of Arena since 1986, and is author or editor of numerous books including Globalization Matters (with Manfred Steger, Cambridge University Press, 2019) and Global Crisis and Insecurity: The Human Condition, Darkly (Cambridge University Press, 2025).
